orange cranberry sauce

Dan and I realized last year that cranberry sauce is super easy to make so we thought we’d step it up a bit this year.  We selected the orange-scented cranberry sauce recipe from the Every Day Food magazine.  I must say that this was the easiest thing we made for thanksgiving.  Even better we made it Wednesday night and it was perfect on Thursday.

Orange-scented cranberry sauce
  • 2 12-ounce fresh cranberries
  • 1.5 cup sugar
  • the zest of two oranges
  • 1 cup fresh orange juice
  • salt and pepper

Combine all ingredients except for the orange juice in a saucepan.  Bring it all to a boil.  Once it reaches a boil reduce to a simmer until thickened.  Instructions say 25 minutes but we let it simmer for almost 40 minutes and the next day it was a perfect consistency.
