About Us

Kitchen Minions is a food blog that follows the kitchen and photography experiments conducted by Denver based couple Dan and Beth MacKenzie.

Dan is a professional triathlete by day and MacKenzie household chef by night.  His favorite influences are Jamie Oliver and the Real Simple recipes.  Dan is beginning to experiment and make his own recipes.  His favorite fruit is peaches and favorite vegetable is acorn squash.

Beth works a 9-5 job but is really an aspiring food and race photographer.  Beth has been photographing triathlons since she met Dan but has only been shooting food since 2009.  Her favorite fruit is watermelon and favorite vegetable is artichokes.

FAQs:

Q:  What kind of camera do you use?

A: Up until December 2009 I was using the Canon PowerShot S5IS.  I now rotate between the Nikon D5000 and the Nikon D700 and I LOVE both of them. I reviewed the Nikon D5000 here.

Q: What other photography equipment do you recommend?

A:  I use the pro Eye Fi on my D5000 to transmit my RAW images.  I also use Adobe lightroom and Adobe Photoshop Elements to edit my images. Adobe lightroom is fantastic for processing a lot of pictures and elements is great for fine tuning a few images.

Q: Where do you find your recipes?

A:  I subscribe to a number of healthy living magazines that have great recipes.  My favorites are Real Simple, Clean Eating, Eating Well, and Every Day Food.   We also swear by Jamie Oliver's recipes.

Q:  How do you track your food?

A:  I love Sparkpeople!  It is free and comprehensive and it has a droid app!  It also has an iphone app too..Dan also tracks his food on sparkpeople, to help him gain weight!

Q:  What workouts do you do?

A: Earlier in 2010 I bought a new treadmill, I switch between running and walking and just try to make sure I hit my exercise and step and calorie goals each day.  I track my calorie burn with the bodybugg

Product Review Policy
On occasion companies approach me to review their products.  It is my policy to mention that the product was given to me for free when I first mention it.  Many of my product reviews are just that.  Reviews of places I've gone and food I've eaten and enjoyed (or not enjoyed).  It is my goal to share with all of you what I've found works and doesn't work.  I hope you enjoy, and please ask if you have any questions!

If you would like to contact me, my email is kitchenminions@gmail.com

Just so you know, there is an Eye-Fi card which does allow you to shoot in RAW - the EyeFi 4GB SDHC PRO card. You can find it on Amazon and there are really good deals on it for the holiday. In addition to RAW, you also get automated Geotagging (if you take pictures where there is WiFi), roaming, and the ad hoc feature which allows you to wirelessly transfer photos from your camera to a local laptop without there even being a wi-fi network. Just make sure you have a camera that takes SDHC-type of SD card.

Thanks Carl, I saw that, but I just recently purchased the 4GB non-pro card so I can't justify the expense of buying another card. Thanks though!
